XFW23 – From Meta Fintech to Impact Fintech

September 11, 2023

The Dutch fintech sector stands at the vanguard of European innovation. It’s not merely evolving from classic banking to leveraging next-gen technologies like AI and blockchain; it’s also pioneering green finance and impact investing to meet sustainability targets, charting the course for global financial trends.

Networking isn’t just a byword in the Dutch fintech realm—it’s an imperative. In this tech-saturated domain, forging connections with contemporaries and potential collaborators is vital to remain on the innovation frontline. Such gatherings catalyze idea evolution, knowledge diffusion, and the genesis of revolutionary solutions.

Organised by Holland Fintech, XFW has consistently been the gold standard for fintech congregations. It magnetises a diverse mix—from startups, investors, and regulators to banks, tech giants, and academia. Beyond mere networking, XFW is a crucible for forthright dialogue and cooperative ventures, sculpting the optimal milieu for alliance creation.

This year, XFW reinvents itself. Veering away from the standard summit structure, it emphasises enriched interactions within the ever-evolving fintech arena. With the inception of “Community Days,” XFW champions more personalised engagements, fostering profound conversations and nurturing authentic connections.

XFW 2023 delves into “meta fintech” and “impact fintech.” While the former scrutinises the role of financial technology in streamlining business functions, the latter evaluates its potential to drive benevolent outcomes for consumers and society. This twofold lens resonates with the global pivot towards conscientious and influential financial strategies.

Digital Transformation Through Collaboration by Accenture

Digital transformation is paramount in fintech as it revolutionises financial services. It streamlines operations, enhances customer experiences, and unlocks new business models. Embracing innovative technologies like blockchain and AI empowers financial institutions to stay competitive, reduce costs, and provide more accessible, secure, and efficient services in today’s rapidly evolving digital landscape.

In order to thoroughly address the relevance of digital transformation in the Dutch fintech ecosystem, XFW is honoured to present a session on this very topic hosted by Accenture. Our guests will have the opportunity to be the first to receive some insightful information from our speakers Joost van Bruggen – Principal Consultant at MavenBlue, Muraleedhar Pai – Executive Director at Maveric Systems Limited, Esther Groen – Member of The Supervisory Board at Verifone, and Kim Kim Oon – Managing Director at Accenture Strategy

DORA – Dora in the boardroom by Stibbe & Dora by NCC Group & BDO

The Digital Operational Resilience Act (DORA) is a recent EU regulation effective from January 2023. It aims to bolster the digital resilience of the European financial market by requiring financial institutions to implement robust ICT risk management, cybersecurity measures, and reporting procedures in the event of cyberattacks. KPMG provides support for compliance.

Fintech enthusiasts curious about this new Act will be happy to discover that our event will be dissecting this regulation within the second day of our community days. In fact, during an interactive lunch presentation hosted by Stibbe, specialists Roderik Vrolijk and Nynke Brouwer will talk you through the ins and outs of the Digital Operational Resilience Act and its impact on the governance of regulated entities.

Additionally, right after the session, our guests can extend their knowledge of DORA by attending a subsequent panel hosted by NCC Group and BDO where they can engage in a conversation with speakers Kees Plas and Menno Weij, and Wayne Scott.

AI in Fintech by Levi9

AI holds immense importance in fintech by automating tasks, enhancing decision-making, and detecting fraud. It enables personalised financial services, efficient trading algorithms, and risk assessment, improving customer experiences and operational efficiency. As fintech evolves, AI plays a pivotal role in driving innovation and maintaining competitiveness in a rapidly changing landscape.

Our roundtable on AI in Fintech is dedicated to answering all of your questions on this very topic. This meeting will be hosted by Levi9 and it will entail a discussion led by Erik Van Ommeren – Director of Portfolio and Innovation at Levi9. This conversation is designed to ponder on some of the following questions: Can one embrace AI to get ahead? Is it time to move, or time to wait? What is the real status of AI, beyond the hype? What is real and what is pure marketing?

Open & Embedded Finance – Maxcode & Innopay

Embedded and Open Finance are transformative concepts in fintech. Embedded Finance integrates financial services seamlessly into non-financial platforms, enhancing convenience and accessibility. Open Finance promotes data sharing, fostering innovation and personalised services. Together, they democratise finance, expanding opportunities for businesses and consumers, and driving the evolution of the financial industry.

XFW brings together an interactive conversation on the importance of Embedded and Open Finance via a session hosted by INNOPAY and Maxcode. INNOPAY is all set to kick off the session by delivering an insightful presentation on the trends, opportunities, and future prospects for fintech within the Open Finance Framework by  Ruben van den Goorbergh, followed by an overview of Maxcode’s comprehensive 2013 survey among fintech decision-makers, aiming to unravel their most formidable challenges brought to you by Adrian Marinică. Another notable speech will be delivered by Eugerta Muçi, PhD Candidate on Open Finance at Erasmus University in Rotterdam.

All about payments & beyond

Payments are the lifeblood of fintech, serving as the foundation for all financial transactions. Innovations in payment technology drive efficiency, security, and convenience, transforming the way businesses and consumers interact with money. From digital wallets to blockchain-based systems, advancements in payments shape the future of finance, making it more accessible and efficient for all.

For this very reason, we believe that our Panel on Payments hosted by Mastercard will shed some light on the average Dutch customer’s payment methods and preferences. We hope that this session led by Jan-Willem van der Schoot will illuminate you on how fintechs can serve consumers’ changing needs.

Last but not least, Amsterdam FinTech Week 2023 promises to be a transformative experience for industry leaders and new entries alike. With its innovative approach of Community Days, it offers a unique opportunity to engage with the fintech community intimately. By exploring the realms of meta fintech and impact fintech, XFW is not just an event; it’s a platform for shaping the future of responsible finance.
